The WrITE Project
The WrITE Project (Writing for Integrated Teacher Education) of the Faculty of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is the First Associated International Site of the National Writing Project (NWP) worldwide. The NWP is a network of about 200 university-affiliated sites across the United States with selected international partnerships. Its mission is to improve the teaching and learning of writing in English in schools by recognizing the primary importance of teacher knowledge, expertise and leadership. Upholding this mission, the Hong Kong WrITE Project not only focuses on writing as in the United States, but also covers areas such as error analysis, language awareness, language arts, and assessment for writing. For serving primary school English language teachers (In collaboration with University of Toronto) For serving primary school English panel chairs and more experienced English language teachers (In collaboration with The University of Auckland) For serving primary school English language teachers (In collaboration with University of Toronto) An overseas immersion programme for English teachers in primary schools in Hong Kong 2008/09, sponsored by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) of the HKSAR Government, was held from 3 November to 12 December 2008 in Canada in collaboration with the University of Toronto, followed by a post-trip sharing session on 7 February 2009 in Hong Kong. SMILE Project
The Support Measures For Invigorating The Learning of English (SMILE) Project, established under the Faculty of Education (the Faculty), The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006, is comprised of a team of dedicated professionals with a mission to provide the services of professional advice on possible support measures for enhancing the teaching and learning of English at schools in Hong Kong. The objective of the SMILE Project is to provide professional consultancy services to schools for facilitating and enhancing their English language learning and teaching. The NSS Implementation Study 2011
In 2011, the Centre for Enhancing English Learning and Teaching (CEELT) of the Faculty of Education, The Chinese University of Hong Kong undertook a major research study titled New Senior Secondary Curriculum Implementation Study (Cheung, Lai & Lee, 2011), which was commissioned by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong to collect territory-wide data in revealing the progress made in the New Senior Secondary (NSS) Curriculum implementation since 2009. The current study is a continuation of the aforementioned study that sheds greater emphasis on revealing the implementing process of the NSS Curriculum. Global Collaboration The WrITE Project, a sub-unit of CEELT, is the first Asian site of National Writing Project (NWP) with a network of about 200 local sites in the United States. With such strong foundation, CEELT constantly seeks the opportunities of expanding its international network by collaborating with those overseas institutions in the area of ELT.
