The Centre for Enhancing English Learning and Teaching (CEELT) was established in 2008 with the mission of operating in different areas associated with English language education.
Over the past two decades, the English language provision at the Faculty of Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has developed from two lecturers running PGDE courses for English language teachers to a cohort of nine professionals who run a variety of programmes from undergraduate to doctoral level in English language education, who publish and research, and who contribute to English language teacher development both locally and internationally.
The establishment of CEELT complements the Faculty of Education’s vision of accommodating focused professional support and development centres under its aegis. CEELT is housed under the Faculty of Education, being one of a number of centres regarded as important to the Faculty’s profile and development. CEELT sees its focus as being in a number of areas associated with English language education. Principally, these centre around:
With the many changes and developments on the horizon for education, and English language education in particular, as the Hong Kong education system moves towards a series of significant changes to the structure of its education system, and with ever-closer ties with China and the Asian region, it is hoped that CEELT will have an important role to play in the light of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
