Introduction
- The 2005 report entitled The New Academic Structure for Senior Secondary Education and Higher Education: Action Plan for Investing in the Future of Hong Kong sets out the blueprint for a new academic structure which comprises a 3-year school curriculum at senior secondary level and a 4-year undergraduate programme at university, and lays out the road map for introducing the new academic structure.
- The Education Bureau (EDB) has a plan to monitor and conduct a ten-year review of the curriculum and assessment reform, which includes the reform at both the basic education level and the New Senior Secondary (NSS) curriculum. Under the ten-year plan, different studies on both basic education and senior secondary education have been/will be conducted to contribute data to inform the overall evaluation of the curriculum and assessment reform of Hong Kong in 2012/13.
- This is the second study on the NSS curriculum implementation in 2011/12 so as to collect information to track the implementation of the NSS curriculum at the completion of its first 3-year cycle.
The Study aims to:
- inform/improve the smooth implementation of the NSS curriculum;
- continuously gauge feedback from and engage different stakeholders in the implementation processes;
- identify the impact on schools and students, with a view to achieving the intended goals of senior secondary education;
- identify the on-going/changing needs and concerns of schools for providing timely support for schools and teachers.
