English Language Teaching Programme for Shenzhen Teachers of English 2009/2010

CEELT was invited by the Education Bureau to design and deliver the “English Language Teaching Programme for Shenzhen Teachers of English 2009/2010”, which was held from March 2010 to January 2011. The programme was offered to 30 English teachers from five Shenzhen schools operating Hong Kong children classes, and was the first of its kind funded by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong and supported by the Education Bureau of Shenzhen.

The programme was designed with the objectives of enabling participants to:
- have a thorough understanding of the English Language Education Key Learning Area Curriculum (Primary 1-6) in Hong Kong
- understand how to prepare students of the Shenzhen schools to take part in the Hong Kong Secondary School Places Allocation System and continue their studies in Hong Kong;
- keep abreast of the latest trends in English language learning and teaching; and
- translate language teaching theory into classroom practice.
The programme consisted of three stages:
Stage 1: Workshops and seminars in Shenzhen (March-April 2010)
Stage 2: School visits, lesson observations, workshops, and sharing sessions in Hong Kong (May 2010)
Stage 3: Action plan tryout by participants in their Shenzhen schools, observed by Hong Kong facilitators (June 2010)
