Introduction
- ABRACADABRA (ABRA) is a free, interactive web-based literacy programme designed for early elementary school-aged students, their educators, teachers and parents. It was developed by The Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance (CSLP) at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, in an effort to help battle the alarmingly high percentage of low ability readers in countries throughout the world.
- In 2013, with an aim to investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of ABRA within Hong Kong primary classrooms, CEELT, in partnership with the CSLP, initiated a pilot study of the ABRACADABRA (ABRA) web-based literacy program on Hong Kong primary school students at T.W.G.Hs. Tang Shiu Kin Primary School. The ABRA project is led by Prof. Barley Mak, Director of CEELT, Prof. Alan Cheung of the Faculty of Education at CUHK and Dr. Phil Abrami, Director of the CSLP. The third implementation year of ABRA has started from September 2015.
